A new notable family has moved into Martha’s Vineyard, a picturesque island just off the coast of Cape Cod in Massachusetts that has long been a summer retreat for the elite of American society.

A seven-bedroom home with a 29-acre estate that overlooks the Edgartown Great Pond between Slough Cove and Turkeyland Cove has been purchased by the former president Barack Obama and his wife Michelle.

Since Barack was still a senator in Illinois and after they moved into the White House, Barack and Michelle have continued to spend many summers on Martha’s Vineyard.

They were following in the footsteps of Bill and Hillary Clinton, as well as a long line of presidents dating all the way back to the 19th century, who fell in love with the island’s peaceful community life and breathtaking sea views.

With 6,892 square feet, eight and a half baths, a garage, a barn, a pool, and direct access to the pond with enough to moor a boat, the 2001-built home is nothing if not roomy.

The Obamas have previously rented the home for several weeks in the summer of 2019, so they are familiar with its benefits.

The house was initially advertised in 2015 for $22.5 M, but during the past five years, the price has been cut in half.
