Unconventional Elements Abound in Serena Williams’ Florida Residence, Sans a Living Room

Describing the recipient of 23 Grand Slam singles titles could only lead to the conclusion that this individual is truly remarkable!

Ever since developing a passion for tennis at the tender age of four, Serena has steadily evolved into one of the premier athletes of our era.

Although this icon declared her retirement from the sport that catapulted her to global recognition in September 2022, she continues to stand tall as a prominent figure in tennis, leaving behind an unparalleled legacy.

Moreover, she is a highly accomplished entrepreneur who boasts her own fashion line known as S by Serena. She also engages in philanthropy and holds a deep affection for the arts. Her brainchild, Serena Ventures, invests in visionary entrepreneurs dedicated to making a difference. One cannot help but marvel at her diverse talents!

In spite of juggling her commitments both on the court and within her family life, it’s essential not to overlook Serena’s spirited cameo alongside Beyoncé in Lemonade. Truly, she is a beacon of iconic influence!

A while back, the star athlete welcomed Architectural Digest into her waterside abode, affording us a glimpse into the resplendent dwelling she shares with her husband, Alexis Ohanian, their daughter, Alexis Olympia, and the impending addition to their family.

Securing the sprawling 14,500-square-foot estate in the northern part of Miami marked a poignant milestone for Serena Williams. It marked the first instance in over two decades where she resided apart from her fellow tennis champion and sister, Venus.

This residence signified her inaugural home with Alexis Ohanian and daughter Olympia, making it a venture of immense significance. Who better to oversee its design than her sister, Venus?

Venus, the owner of the interior design firm V Starr Interiors, played a pivotal role in the transformation of the Spanish Mediterranean-style property into Serena’s vision of a dream home.

While radiating an aura of “livable luxury,” the dwelling remаins deeply rooted in familial warmth, a crucial element for Serena.

Interestingly, Serena Williams’ dwelling forgoes a conventional living room. Procured in 2017 at a price of $5.7M, the exquisite waterfront property initially featured six bedrooms and eight bathrooms.

Following an extensive overhaul, the Mediterranean-style mansion underwent a metamorphosis under the collaborative efforts of Serena and Venus. Their joint creative endeavors brought about distinct attributes including an art gallery, seamlessly blending indoor and outdoor spaces, an exclusive trophy room, and an expansive 620-square-foot closet. However, a traditional “formal” living room was conspicuously absent.

In light of Serena’s affinity for the arts, she opted for an art gallery in lieu of a conventional living space. This innovative choice allowed her to showcase the works of her cherished artists such as Radcliffe Bailey, Leonardo Drew, Titus Kaphar, and even feature her very own painting.

The residence also features a library, a transparent piano, and assorted eclectic pieces that provide insight into Serena’s personality.

Naturally, the presence of a trophy room was obligatory for a residence belonging to a tennis luminary. The room proudly displays trophies representing Serena’s triumphs, encompassing prestigious accolades like those from the Australian Open, the US Open, Wheaties boxes, and a Wimbledon trophy. The stories that this room could recount are truly captivating.

As the self-proclaimed family chef, Serena takes delight in preparing meals for her loved ones. Thus, the kitchen’s design held immense significance for her.

Collaborating with Serena’s personal chef, the V Starr team fashioned a space that houses a trapezoidal table and premium appliances including Gaggenau ovens and an Officine Gullo cooktop. The bespoke black and gold marble backsplash, arranged in a diamond-pattern mosaic, further elevates the kitchen’s aesthetic.

The dining area boasts a striking allure, enhanced by a cluster of pendant lamps above the table and artwork curated by the tennis luminary herself.

Serena’s eclectic abode offers an array of delights. Bathed in ample sunlight through its towering 28-foot windows, the residence features heated bathroom floors, an extensive wine cellar, a gym complete with a sauna, a charming terrace hosting an infinity pool, and the aforementioned sprawling closet. It encapsulates every expectation one might hold.

Notably, the property lacks a tennis court. Serena’s rationale, as shared with AD, centers on the concept of segregating her personal and professional domains. Home is a space where she seeks repose and tranquility.

A standout room within the dwelling is Olympia’s abode, a realm of extravagance featuring a bespoke pink castle bed equipped with an integrated slide and an exceptional chandelier crafted by Josh Fradis.

Undoubtedly, the pièce de résistance is the karaoke room. Acknowledging Serena’s penchant for singing and dancing, it is no surprise that she manifested her own private karaoke haven within her home.

This space doubles as a media room, bar, and club venue. Boasting a stage that witnesses numerous mother-daughter duets, plush blue seating, and a personalized neon sign bearing the moniker “Sérénade” (Serena’s karaoke persona), the room exudes vibrancy. Additionally, a popcorn machine adds a touch of playful charm.

However, a set of house rules is in place, including the prohibition of performances of “Bohemian Rhapsody” and “I Will Survive.” According to Serena and her sister, only serious vocalists are granted access to this cherished karaoke realm.
