Naomi Campbell, a new mother, has pioneered catwalks and graced magazine covers for 35 years. At 50, Campbell is still in demand and has a level of visibility that models half her age envy.
She closed Fendi’s spring 2021 couture show in Paris’ Palais Brongniart, Kim Jones’s first as artistic director of womenswear. Campbell’s stately walk down the runway in a silver cape and imperial gown lit up the internet and confirmed her status as one of the greatest models ever.
She’s modeled for Nars, Burberry, Saint Laurent, Beyoncé’s “Brown Skin Girl” video, and Amazon’s Making the Cut. She also keeps her more than 10M Instagram followers (and nearly 500,000 YouTube subscribers) up to date with archival photos from her career, No Filter With Naomi interviews with her famous friends, and travel videos.
Her schedule is hectic, yet work energizes and fulfills her. “First and foremost, never rest on your laurels, and I still like what I do,” Campbell explains on her refusal to slow down.
“I use myself as a gateway, a connector, to uplift and guide my culture in the right direction. Drives me.”
Even icons need rest. Campbell travels to Malindi, Kenya, to disconnect at her villa. Her lovely property overlooking the Indian Ocean has been her refuge from London and New York City for over 20 years.
The spacious space exudes laid-back opulence with natural light and earth tones. She claims it’s peaceful. “You don’t want to talk. TVs aren’t your goal. You prefer reading alone. Silence and crickets are nice.”
